Practicums and Internships

 

Internships and Practicum requirements:

Those interested in serving their internship or practicum at Lydia’s House may email their resume and cover-letter noting their desired position to the Volunteer Coordinator at: volunteer@lydiashouse.org or you may mail the application materials to:

Requirements for all practicum and intern positions:

  • Complete the application packet: Volunteer application, confidentiality agreement and basic background check
  • Brief interview, no longer than 30 minutes with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Orientation and tour of Lydia’s House, which will include the volunteer training packet
  • Completion of 3 part SLEVAWN trainings (see below for information
  • Students must provide own transportation to and from Lydia’s House

Practicum/Internship Training Requirements:

If volunteers desire to work with children or women, they must complete Joint Orientation Training, hosted by St. Louis Eliminating Violence Against Women Network (SLEVAWN). Lydia’s House partners with SLEVAWN to host training sessions in January, June and August. The 3-part training must be completed before volunteers are allowed to participate in direct- service with our residents. The training is held after business hours at Maryville University.

Saturday, August 20, 2011 from (8:45 AM – 4:30 PM)

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from (5:45 PM – 9:00 PM)

Saturday, September 10, 2011 from (8:45 AM – 4:30 PM)

*Trainings are conveniently held near the beginning of Fall, Spring and Summer semesters, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for directions and pertinent information.

Internship and Practicum Positions:

These positions are accepted on a rolling basis, but it is always better to apply at the beginning the semester. The positions are competitive, not only because they provide excellent professional experience, but also because we only accept a few students per position. Apply early!

  • Marketing and Communications may include the following: Drafting and editing communications pieces; media relations; market research; assisting with event planning; web site management; and supporting development and fundraising activities. This is an unpaid internship with a flexible schedule of 10-15 hours per week.
  • Development positions may include the following: Maintaining the donor and constituent database; helping run events, including fundraising and awareness events; in-kind donation coordination and volunteer coordination assistance. This is an unpaid internship with flexible schedule of 10 – 15 hours per week.
  • Children’s Programs may include the following task: Reading to children; assisting program staff during field trips; tutoring children during the after-school program; arranging details for monthly birthday celebrations; assisting staff during fundraising events that benefit the children of Lydia’s House. This is an unpaid internship with flexible schedule of 10 – 15 hours per week.
