Volunteer


Please join us in creating a place of healing and a voice of hope for abused women and their children by volunteering with us! Volunteers are needed in many areas including:

Program

  • Children's Program (volunteers must be at least 16)
    • Childcare (Monday and Wednesday evenings)
    • Children's After School Program and Tutoring (Monday thru Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m.)
    • Children's summer program assistance (Monday thru Thursday, daytime hours)
  • Women's Program (volunteers must be at least 21)
    • Tutors (additional training required)
    • Interpreters (additional training required)

Buildings and Grounds

  • Lawn care
  • Landscaping
  • Pick up and delivery of donations
  • Skilled labor
  • Furniture moving and set-up
  • Cleaning of public areas
  • Prepare apartments for move-in
  • Inventory and restock of in-kind donations

Administrative

  • Office support—various duties including mailings, filing, etc. (weekdays 9:00-5:00, as needed)
  • Assisting with miscellaneous office projects

Committees & Community Outreach

  • March of Hope Committee
    Our largest annual fundraiser held on the first Saturday in March.
  • Garden Tea Party Committee
    An annual spring fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of Lydia's House.
  • Faith Advocates
    Support and share information about the mission and programs of Lydia's House with others in your faith community, as well as act as a liaison between the community and Lydia's House.
  • Birthday Party Committee
    Organizes and provides twice-monthly parties for the children of Lydia's House. Parties are offered the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month
  • Holiday Project
    Purchase gifts and other items needed for celebrating the holidays at Lydia's House.
  • Speakers Bureau
    Be a trained representative in the community and offer information about Lydia's House, our work, and domestic violence
  • Communications Committee
    Help to develop our public relations strategies and advertising for events. Membership is comprised of professionals who work in the public relations, marketing and communications field
  • Pins Sales
    House Pin® sales - individual or retail sellers. Sell pins at local craft fairs and special events. Hours vary.

Lydia's House has the following requirements for volunteers:

  • All ongoing volunteers must complete Lydia's House volunteer training
  • Each volunteer must complete a Volunteer Application
  • Each volunteer must sign a confidentiality agreement

 

 

Purple for a Purpose: Bowling, Food and Fun for Lydia's House

Put on your purple and join Lydia's House for our first Purple for a Purpose event, hosted by the Flamingo Bowl on September 13, 6-8 p.m.
